Even after spending dollars on advertising, the sales numbers don’t seem impressive?

Oh wait, did you also make the same mistake that most Shopify merchants make? Well, yes, most store owners don’t know how important landing pages are for their marketing campaigns.

And you might’ve made the same mistake, or maybe I’m saving your next campaign revenue with this article. ;)

First of all, the landing pages are designed differently than normal web pages that we create, there are multiple strategies to follow and things to consider that ultimately lead to better user experience and increased chances for conversion.

Since you’re here, stop worrying about your campaign success, this article has all the answers for you to build a landing page that converts. In this article, you’ll get to understand:

  • What landing pages are
  • How they differ from regular web pages
  • Anatomy of landing pages
  • Most importantly, how you’ll build them for your Shopify store
  • Tips for building a high-converting landing page for Shopify

That seems exciting, right? So, let’s start with it.

What are Landing Pages?

A landing page is a standalone web page that potential customers land on after clicking through your advertising or marketing campaigns from Google, Bing, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or similar places on the web.

Landing pages are often used to convince your audience to take an action that leads to conversion. One thing about landing pages is that they are designed with a single goal — whether it’s lead generation, selling a specific product, or offering new customers a discount.

How do Landing Pages Differ from Regular Web Pages?

Unlike regular web pages that typically have multiple goals and encourage product exploration, landing pages are designed with a single focus to covert, the call-to-action (CTA). A landing page neither includes a link back to the home page nor consists of a header to distract users.

The landing page only builds user focus on the main CTA and has all the necessary product details available on a single page, keeping them from leaving the page but completing the purchase journey.

Here, I’m attaching an image that explains how landing pages lead users to meet your desired goal by narrowing down your marketing funnel and maximizing the ROI potential for your campaigns.

So, until now we took a basic understanding of what landing pages are, how they differ from regular web pages, and how they help convert. Let’s get to understand the actual structure of landing pages.

The Anatomy of a Landing Page

Each great landing page is made with a core group of elements. These blocks (as you might consider ’em), need to be placed in a way that guides users to purchasing your product without disturbing the flow.

Here I’ve made an image to explain the anatomy of the landing page more easily.

In the image, I’ve only added the main elements that need to be present on your landing page. Now, let’s read through a quick overview of the main elements of the landing page.

Key Elements on Landing Page

Let’s understand the key elements with basic detailing.

1. Notification Bar

At the start of the page, landing pages often comprise of notification bar promoting time-sensitive offers, announcements, or email signups. This is concise writing that is visually distinct and shares necessary information while avoiding overwhelming visitors.

2. Hero Section

This section holds huge importance for your users. It should quickly grab user attention and visually represent your offer. Here's what it typically includes:

  • Hero Image/Video: A high-quality image or video that showcases your product or service in action. Choose visuals that evoke emotions and connect with your target audience.
  • Headline (Main & Subheadline): The main headline should be clear, concise, and benefit-driven, capturing attention in seconds. The subheadline can provide more details or address a specific pain point.
  • Call-to-action: This is the most crucial element that needs to be placed prominently and clear way, and should be the most highlighted element on the entire page to grab user focus. Use strong verbs like "Buy Now", “Subscribe Now”, or "Get Started", depending on the kind of landing page you’re building.

3. Product Features/Benefits Section

Here's where you talk deeper into the "why" behind your offer. You can explain how your product or service solves their problem, improves lives, or fulfills a need.

Also, you need to focus more on the benefits side, not just features as the user engages better when we talk about their benefits. So, use clear and concise language, bullet points, icons, or short videos to break up text and improve readability.

4. User-Generated Content (UGC) Section

This section features content created by real users, such as testimonials, reviews, or social media posts. The UGC section helps build trust and credibility by showing how others have benefited from your product or service, playing a big role in conversion.

5. Additional Elements (Depending on Your Goal)

  • Supporting Images/Videos: Showcase additional features, illustrate use cases, and more with a visual variety of images and videos. Make sure to keep them on a single page while placing videos.
  • Forms: In case you’re looking to capture leads or subscriptions for your service or survey, you may need well-designed forms. You can either place them on the hero banner or under the features section. Make sure to keep them short and only ask for necessary information.
  • FAQs: Once you’ve added all the necessary elements based on your campaign requirements, you can address common questions and concerns that a visitor may have to clear up doubts.
  • Minimalist Footer: Many people do and most people do not add detailed footer to their landing pages. You can keep a minimal footer with basic information like contact details or copyright depending on your choices and needs, however, avoid distracting from the main CTA.
  • Pricing Plans: In case you're making a landing page to invite people to subscribe to your product's monthly delivery, presenting pricing plans will be necessary for your landing page. Make sure to keep them clear and in an easy-to-understand format.
  • Trust Badges: Similar to testimonials, you can also add logos of trusted companies or authorities, security badges, or awards that you gained over the years to increase visitor confidence in your products/services.

To build a perfect landing page that converts well, you must stick to these rules. However, some readers may counter-argue that:

  • Isn’t marketing campaigns all about standing out from the crowd?
  • Won't a formulaic approach make your content & design generic and forgettable?

Normally, it won’t hurt anything. You can try and experiment depending on your campaign goals and audience. However, make sure to maintain the presence of all these key elements and that main highlight should go to CTA.

Now, that we’re well-understood about landing pages, it’s time to understand how you can build a landing page for your Shopify store. Let’s move to the next section and discuss the same.

How to Create a Landing Page on Shopify that Converts 💲

There are multiple ways you can build a landing page for our Shopify.

Let's go through the process for all of them with a basic video tutorial giving you a glimpse into the process.

Method #1 — With Shopify Theme Builder (Limiting Way 🚧)

The first method is perfect for beginners or those who want to create a Shopify landing page without coding. Using Shopify’s Theme Builder, you can easily design your landing page with its drag-and-drop functionality, making the process simple.

To start the process, open your Shopify admin panel and follow the steps I’ve outlined below.

Step 1: On your admin dashboard, find Sales Channels >> Online Store >> Pages, and after clicking that, you’ll find an option to “Add Page”.

Click the button to move further in the process.

Step 2: To add a page, add the title for it, and the content description if you want.

Also, don’t forget to set the “theme template” as default.

Later on, click the save button to create a page.

Step 3: Once you’ve successfully created the page, go to the theme editor and choose an option to customize it.

Your path to theme editor — Sales Channels >> Online Store >> Themes

Step 4: In the Shopify theme editor, click the "Templates" dropdown menu near the screen's top center.

Step 5: Once you do that, you’ll see a search bar, where you’ll find a tab for pages under the menu. So, search for the landing page that we just created in the previous steps.

And here, you finally have your landing page created successfully.

But wait… this is just a blank template that needs to be edited. So, turn up your creativity mode and start building the landing page of your dream.

Okay, now that we’ve understood the first method to create and customize a Shopify landing page well, let’s move on to understand another method.

Method #2 — With Shopify Liquid (Hard Way ⚙️)

The second method is where you code the entire landing page with Shopify’s coding language, liquid.

So, if you’re a developer or understand technicality, building a custom landing page template with liquid offers the most flexibility. This allows you to create unique sections beyond what standard themes can provide.

Pros for building a landing page with Shopify liquid:

  • Complete design control
  • Build unique sections not offered in themes

Cons for building a landing page with Shopify liquid:

  • Requires coding knowledge (Liquid & potentially JSON for Online Store 2.0 themes)
  • Time-consuming (compared to other methods)

If you have technical knowledge or resources to spend on custom development by hiring a Shopify expert, this method can help you the best. Or else, consider using Method #3 which comes with way simple process and greater customization flexibility.

Let’s get to learn it.

Method #3 — Using Landing Page Builder App (Easy Way 😌)

Shopify has a massive app store that offers everything from the best Shopify themes to the best landing page builder apps.

These paid page builder apps are an easy, quick, and convenient way to build a landing page for your online store that stands out. There are multiple great landing page builder apps for you to use, however, these 5 apps top my suggestion list:

  1. PageFly
  2. Shogun
  3. Gem Pages
  4. Zipify Pages
  5. HyperVisual

While the Shopify theme editor offers built-in landing page creation capabilities, you might wonder why you would invest in third-party apps. But let me be truthful that Shopify’s theme editor is quite limiting, and can be complex if you need advanced or out-of-the-box features.

However, when you use third-party page builder apps, your process of creating a highly customizable is easy, quick, and enjoyable.

And that’s all about how you create a landing page for your Shopify store.

Okay, now that we are well aware of all the methods, it's time to move further and check some tips on how you build high-converting landing pages. Let’s learn the key practices. 🙂

Tips For Building a High-converting Landing Page for Shopify

Your promotional campaigns have lots of potential if your landing page acts right.

Yes, a conversion-friendly landing page is best to convince your audience to invest in your offerings. Below, I’ve added some of the best tips that help resonate with your target audience and drive results.

1. Figure Out Your Goal Clearly

Before you start to build your landing, it’s necessary to get clarity over your vision. So, start with defining if you want to:

  • Generate sales for a specific product or collection?
  • Capture email addresses to build your subscriber list?
  • Drive registrations for an upcoming webinar or event?
  • Promote a new product launch to generate excitement?

When you’ve your objectives clear, you’ll be able to build a landing page that revolves around this central goal – which is highly necessary for converting visitors.

2. Stick to a Single Call-To-Action

When you’ve multiple CTAs on your landing you’re doing nothing but confusing your users.

And confusion will of course work against your landing page’s objective. So instead, try to use a single powerful CTA with a heading that convinces your customers. And try using strong actionable words like "Buy Now", "Get Started", or "Subscribe," to ensure your CTA button stands out visually, guiding visitors effortlessly towards conversion.

3. Add High-Quality Product Visuals

Product visuals play a big role in how your customers perceive your brand and your products. And when I talk about visuals, there are multiple other things other than using clear product images.

Let me set an example here. Tell me the brand/products you’d trust more out of these two:

The 2nd one, right?

The first one however has a clear view of the product, it gives little artificial and non-trustable vibes. There’s no sign of authenticity in available images, it seems computer generated. With such product images users won’t be able to figure out product quality, and size, leading to reduced trust in the product.

On the other hand, the second example seems authentic. A model is wearing the product, and the visuals are quite clear even when viewed from afar. You can also find images from multiple angles to provide a better view of the product. They have gained additional user trust by placing high-quality videos showcasing the products, which helps clear users' doubts about whether the product images are photoshopped or genuine.

Using such visuals is highly necessary to use in landing pages, or else, how do you plan on convincing your customers?

  • If in a furniture niche, highlight them in a cozy, well-decorated room.
  • If in a fitness equipment niche, show them being used at a modern gym or home workout space.
  • If in a beauty niche, show a model applying it in a chic, well-lit vanity setting.
  • If in a gardening niche, display your gardening tools in a vibrant, flourishing garden.
  • If in a tech gadgets niche, show your products being used in a sleek, minimalist office environment.
  • If in a pet food niche, showcase your products with happy pets in a comfortable, inviting home.
  • If in the art supplies niche, display your products in a colorful, creative studio setting.
  • If in a fashion niche, highlight your products being worn by models.
  • If in a home decor niche, showcase your products in a beautifully arranged and welcoming room.

… and more ways that build user trust and suit your offerings.

This way your users can visualize themselves using your product and experience the benefits firsthand. So, always choose to go beyond product close-ups to create an emotional connection with your audience.

4. Don’t Forget Social Proof

According to multiple user behavior studies, social proof has consistently proven to be a high-converting marketing tool—whether through emails, SEO, or pop-ups. Landing pages are no different!

And yes, when you launch your campaign with a landing page that lacks social proof, you’re only throwing your offers at prospects to make a tough decision on their own. And people won’t decide on your offering like that unless you provide them with fellow buyers' experience with your brand.

So, make sure you include them in a descriptive yet engaging way that convinces users at its best.

5. Prioritize Load Speed

We all know how frustrating it can be when a website takes forever to load.

Your customers won’t like to meet a slow-loading page and a spinning wheel when they choose to explore your landing page. Because by the time the page finally loads, they’ve lost interest in your offering.

And PUFF, they’re gone. 🌫️

Yes, this scenario is all too common and is the root cause of landing page failure.

Many store owners make to work on building aesthetically pleasing landing pages while forgetting about their responsiveness. So, make sure your landing page delivers a smooth user experience and performs at its best.

But wait how do you do that? Here are areas you need to check to keep up with better load time.

  • Website Design: Check if your design is responsive and adapts well to all screen sizes.
  • Visuals: Ensure that image and video file sizes are optimized for quick loading by the browser.
  • Hosting: Verify that your hosting service can handle your expected traffic volume efficiently.
  • Server Configuration: Ensure that your server settings are optimized for performance and scalability.

Also, don’t forget to regularly test and monitor load times with Google PSI, follow the latest optimization tricks, and stay updated with the latest solutions for speed improvement—like AMP and PWAs.

Doing this will be enough to achieve optimal landing page performance, boost user engagement, and increase conversion rates.

6. Offer Value

On this landing page, you can see a great deal targeting new customers. And it's convincing for a visitor to show interest and decide to purchase it. But why? What did they do differently?

See, it's convincing because they’re offering value to their visitors. So yes, no one would mind trying out their product to experience its benefits for a reduced price. And it’s a clear strategy that works wonders for them. If you’re looking to craft a similar offer that no visitors could resist, all you have to do is find their pain points and provide them with a solution in the name of your offering.

7. A/B Test

The thing is that none of us know what’s going to work best for the campaign. At least not at the beginning of, and I know it's hard to digest but it’s true.

The only way to figure out if your landing page will work better for campaigns is to experiment and test it on users. This may include testing functionalities, marketing copy, messaging, offer, layout, design, CTAs, forms, and more.

All you need to do is make multiple variants of the landing page by improving the areas that may bring in growth. To set an example, let me present A/B testing results from YuppieChef’s landing page campaign.

YummyChef created a landing page campaign to collect emails. They first started the campaign with variant A which included a navigation bar. Later on, they found that removing the navigation bar can drive more conversions so they created landing page variant B without navigation.

And guess what, removing navigation from the landing page increased their conversion rate from a stagnant 3% to a whopping 100%. An impressive rise, right?

Following these tips will help you build a landing page that truly helps drive conversions.

And that was all about how you build a high-converting landing page on Shopify that converts. Now, let me share some examples of high-converting landing pages of all time so you can gain some inspiration.
